One of the largest neighborhoods in Denver, Montbello has undergone many recent changes.  The demographics have shifted in the last 20 years from historically African American to a majority Latino community.  This neighborhood also has been hit hard by the recent economic downturn and has experienced many foreclosures.  Nonetheless, there has been increasing momentum within the community and from supporting organizations to strengthen Montbello and improve outcomes for children.

Montbello is home to a new DPS early childhood center and increased educational options for students, as part of a large school turnaround effort.  In addition, Montbello is one of two neighborhoods to be served by a DPS regional athletics program for expanded youth athletic opportunities.  With the increased momentum within the community and enthusiasm from the recent election of Mayor Michael Hancock, previously a councilmember from this district, there are many opportunities to better serve the families of Montbello and improve educational opportunities for children.
